First, full disclosure: I was one of the lucky few who got to pre-read this book, asking questions and offering suggestions along the way. Not that John Randall Aikman needed the help, by the way.That aside, I found "All Things Touch" to be a wonderful book that not only presented wonderfully nuanced historic events, but included richly developed characters that brought those eras alive. Aikman's gift for dialog and detail helped me feel like I was there, living in the days of America's past.If you like Westerns, you'll like this. If you like historic novels, you'll like this.If you're simply looking for a title to snuggle up with, this may be the book for you. This is a great example of historical fiction. The author does a great job of weaving the experiences and lives of fictional characters into the incredibly rich history of the migration to the west in the mid 1800's. I found myself learning about so many amazing places and the incredible challenges faced by those who opened the western US. The writing style was engaging and the pages flew by. I strongly recommend this book and can't wait for the next one to come out.
