Ebook About What is masculinity? When someone tells a man to be a man, they mean that there is a way to be a man. A man is not just a thing to be—it is also a way to be, a path to follow and a way to walk. People are talking about “the end of men,” “the decline of males,” and the so-called “crisis of masculinity.” There are many diagnoses for the troubles men face today, but the chattering class is short on solutions. They refuse to deal honestly with the differences between men and women, and fail to entertain the possibility that their vision of the future offers little of value to average males. The Way of Men answers the question “What is masculinity?” Donovan concludes that The Way of Men is the way of the primal survival gang. The simple, amoral, tactical virtues of the gang define our most basic conception of manliness. The “crisis of masculinity” is really a timeless push-and-pull between masculinity and civilization. The world has changed more than men have, and the security and luxury of modernity have put us conflict with our own natures. The path back to honor for men may be through a new dark age. The Way of Men is likely to be the “Iron John” for a generation of lost boys who are not-so-secretly praying for everything to fall apart.“A thought provoking read on what it means to be a man today in a world that's increasingly finding masculinity undesirable and un-needed. Donovan makes bold and unapologetic arguments on what The Way of Men needs to be in the future.”-Brett McKay, The Art of Manliness, Manvotionals “In an age where traditional masculinity is disparaged, deconstructed, feared and scorned, Jack Donovan has engaged in the necessary task of reconstructing what masculinity is, and how it fits into modern society. It seems unlikely that one could learn manhood from a book, but this would be a good place to try.”-Scott Locklin; Writer, Taki’s MagazineBook The Way of Men Review :
Good treatise on Masculinity. However, the conclusion of the book is rather nihilistic in the options afforded humanity. Donovan sets his critique against globalist elite society being a result of feminization, which, is in part, true. But civilization is the goal of the kernel of the gang, which he himself professes. So, his personal thesis runs cyclical and falls flat in the end. Bottom line is with most of these books that are conservative in their bent and pro-masculine (which I personally agree with) and patriarchichal, if it doesn't point to a higher way of being, higher than base evolutionary mechanisms, it runs to nihilism. That's just the way it is. Dostoevsky nailed it in 1865 and it still rings true today. It's found among the left mostly, but, now also heavily influencing the right. Without a higher power / higher endeavor all this serves to promote is either hateful violence and/or despondency. Aim higher. Other than that, not terrible. I did give it 4 stars. The first half of the book I found the author's arguments for men's modern day failures intriguing and while I didn't agree with everything he was writing, it was at least rational. The second half the book is more of a diatribe against feminism. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand far left feminists, but at the same time I can't make the jump that all women need to go back to the kitchen, get naked and be ready to make our dinner and babies when we please. (actually on second thought, I'd love it if my wife agreed to the naked all day long :)) I digress, Intellectual prowess should have dominion over simple physical superiority, which is not a pro feminist statement, but one that men need simply to step up their game if they feel they're losing. Anyway, I agree with the author that men find their sense of "manliness" from other men. I'm just not ready to join a revolution that brings us back to being cavemen. In the end, the book became comical as it approached the more absurd. But in some ways it was still enlightening, hence my 3 star review. Men do need to find their sense of purpose. I did not feel this book resolved how to do that. However, those who throw this book out as complete nonsense are also throwing the baby out with the bath water as the author has found some truths that resonate with men. He just needed to look for a path forward, rather than backward for men.
